RouteLoot field guide
How RouteLoot works
RouteLoot turns outdoor activities into a loot hunt. Connect Strava, explore the map, and your GPS activity history can earn loot, XP, and gold when your route passes a loot item at the right place and time.
Explore the loot map1. Get started
- Create an account or log in. Your profile keeps your progress and collection.
- Open Profile and connect Strava. Allow activity access so RouteLoot can check your activities.
- Use Sync now on your profile to import activities, or wait for automatic background syncing. The first sync also works through your available activity history in batches.
- Browse the map, choose a loot item in a region you own, and plan an outdoor ride or run past it while it is active.
2. How a loot is found
RouteLoot compares the GPS route and timestamps from a synced activity with each published loot. A qualifying part of your route must pass within the loot's displayed radius while the loot is active. The match is based on the time you passed the location, not just the activity's start time.
Activities that count
Outdoor Strava activities with GPS data, including available activities from before you connected.
Activities that do not count
Virtual or Zwift activities, trainer sessions, manual activities, and activities without GPS.
- Sync is not instant: use Sync now after an activity, or let automatic syncing check it later.
- Re-syncing the same activity does not award the same loot twice.
- Each loot can only be claimed once by you. A loot's claim limit may also mean it has run out.
- A loot must be published and active when you pass it, and you must own its region.
3. Read the map
Select rarity, category, region, or status filters to narrow the markers. Choose a marker to see its description, category, region, radius, reward, active dates, countdown, and remaining claims. The shaded circle shows the area around its location. If you are signed in, you can also turn on Show my recent tracks to compare recent synced routes with the map.
- Marker colors represent rarity; a check mark means you already found it.
- Upcoming markers are dimmed until their active window begins.
- The map shows only regions you own and the published loot items in those regions. Admins can view all regions; Regional Admins can also view their assigned regions.
- Use the category, region, and status filters to find active, upcoming, already found, or not-yet-found loot items.
4. Earn XP and gold
A successful find awards the XP and gold shown in the map popup. Rarity gives you a quick idea of the default reward; individual rewards can vary.
| Rarity | Typical XP | Typical gold |
|---|---|---|
| Common | 10 | 5 |
| Uncommon | 25 | 15 |
| Rare | 75 | 50 |
| Epic | 200 | 150 |
| Legendary | 500 | 400 |
| Unique | 1000 | 1000 |
XP determines your level; gold does not. Level 1 starts at 0 XP, and the total XP needed for level L is 100 × (L − 1)² (for example, level 2 needs 100 XP and level 3 needs 400 XP).
5. Challenges and regions
Challenges
Visit Challenges to see each challenge's required loot items, progress, reward, and inclusive start and end dates. Find every required loot item on an eligible activity during those dates, after the challenge has been published, to complete it. Challenge rewards are added to your inventory.
Regions
You can collect loot only in regions you own. Your starting region is selected when you register; unlock more from the region shop on your profile for 1000 gold each. Filter the map by region to plan your next outing.
Create your own loot
Spend 1,000 gold using Create loot on the map. Choose a name, click a location, and select a region you own. Your loot is published immediately for exactly 30 days, with category Created by User, rarity Rare, a 50 m radius, and a reward of 75 XP and 50 gold. Every player who owns its region can find it once, including you; there is no overall claim limit.
If a user-created loot is not reachable or contains inappropriate text, choose Flag loot in its map popup. Sign in, choose a reason, and optionally add a comment. You can have one open report per loot. Only admins can see reports; the loot stays visible until an admin decides to archive it.
6. Your profile, inventory, and leaderboard
- Profile shows your level and XP progress, gold, loot totals, region access, Strava connection and sync status, and recent activities.
- Inventory keeps your found loot items and completed challenges. Filter loot by rarity and sort by date or rarity.
- Leaderboard compares hunters by XP, loot count, rare-or-higher finds, and gold.
Strava connection and activity data
You can disconnect Strava from your profile. Disconnecting removes RouteLoot's access and deletes stored activity tracks, but your account and already-found loot items remain. Deleting your account is separate and permanently removes your account, inventory, and stored Strava data.
Sync can take multiple batches when importing history. If a batch is still pending or Strava applies a rate limit, use Sync now again later or let background syncing continue.
